Open Thinker

 Exposure to diverse perspectives challenges individuals to question assumptions and prejudices, seek new information, and consider alternative viewpoints.

Modern organizations and societies operate in such a complex and uncertain dynamic ecosystem that the leaders and professionals have to understand the creative tension, handle paradox, and deal with innovation dilemmas strategically. Open thinkers, often associated with critical and creative thinking, possess several key traits:

Autonomy: They are independent and nonconformist in their thoughts and actions.

Curiosity and Problem-Seeking: They have a need to seek novelty and an ability to pose unique questions.

Open-Mindedness: They demonstrate a disposition toward reflective open inquiry.

Self-Awareness: They recognize and account for their own biases in judgment and experience.

Originality: They can think of novel ideas and products.

Balanced Intellect: While intelligent, they don't let intellect overshadow intuition or other nonrational influences.

Empathy: They possess the ability to understand and share the feelings of others.

Flexibility: They can use ideas and tools in unusual ways.

Mastery: They exhibit expertise in a particular field, applying their knowledge to innovate and revolutionize.

The challenges of embracing diverse perspectives: Embracing diverse perspectives can be challenging due to several cognitive and social factors:

-Confirmation Bias: People tend to process information in a biased manner, especially when they have already formed an opinion. This bias occurs because individuals prefer to seek out information that confirms their existing beliefs to protect their self-esteem and feelings of intelligence.

-Groupthink: In cohesive groups, members may prioritize consensus over critical thinking, leading to poor decision-making. The symptoms of groupthink include an illusion of invulnerability, collective rationalization, and self-censorship.

-Egocentrism: People often fail to recognize the subjective nature of their perceptions and assume that others share their preferences and knowledge. This can manifest as the false-consensus effect, the curse-of-knowledge effect, the illusion of transparency, and the spotlight effect.

-Homogeneity: People frequently live in areas where everyone is similar in appearance, culture, and political backgrounds, which can limit exposure to diverse perspectives.

Exposure to diverse perspectives challenges individuals to question assumptions and prejudices, seek new information, and consider alternative viewpoints. This prepares them to tackle complex real-world challenges with a well-rounded and informed perspective, encouraging active learning and meaningful discussions.

Philosophical Reasoning & Universal Wisdom

Reasoning is essential for the development and application of justice. It allows for the critical evaluation of social norms, laws, and policies to ensure they align with principles of fairness and equity.

Philosophical reasoning and universal wisdom are essential for understanding the complexities of human existence. Reasoning and justice are intertwined concepts that play crucial roles in law, ethics, and political philosophy.

Reasoning provides the basis for evaluating actions and decisions, while justice represents the ideal of fairness and moral rightness in social interactions and institutions.

Reasoning: Reasoning involves the process of using logic and critical thinking to form conclusions, judgments, or inferences. It can be evaluated based on correctness and efficiency.

Definitory Rules: Govern the correctness of reasoning, and violations lead to fallacies.

Strategic Rules: Govern the efficiency of reasoning, focusing on sequences of steps and overall chains of reasoning.

Applied Logic: It involves the study of practical reasoning, including deductive, inductive, and interrogative reasoning.

Cognitive Biases: Systematic errors in thinking that affect how individuals perceive reality, potentially leading to irrational decisions.

Critical Thinking: A mode of cognition that uses deliberative reasoning and impartial scrutiny of information to solve problems.

Justice: Justice is a multifaceted concept involving fairness, equity, and moral correctness in the distribution of rights, resources, and opportunities within a society.

Social Contract Theory: Conceptions of justice view it as a human creation based on agreements that define individual rights, duties, and governmental powers. Each person should have an equal right to basic liberty compatible with similar liberty for others. Social and economic inequalities should benefit the least advantaged and attach to positions open to all under fair equality of opportunity.

Good-Reasons Theory: Tries to establish the validity or objectivity of moral judgments by examining the modes of reasoning used to support them.

Aristotle's View of Justice: Encompasses the rule of law, the pursuit of the common good, equitable distribution of benefits, and fairness in dealings between individuals.

Reasoning is essential for the development and application of justice. It allows for the critical evaluation of social norms, laws, and policies to ensure they align with principles of fairness and equity. The study of reasoning, including its potential pitfalls such as cognitive biases and fallacies, helps in constructing more just and equitable societies.

In Blossom

In blossom, we admire the natural spirit. In this beautiful world,  natural phenomenon inspires us all.

In the quiet of the morning light,

Petals open,

reaching for the sunshine.

Whispers of a garden begin to bloom,

In the season of spring,

Nature energy creates the momentum.

In blossom,

we smell, feel, and enjoy;

With every color, a new melody.

Together we appreciate natural beauty;

with natural charm.

In this garden of hope,

our journey starts.

Softly swaying in the gentle breeze,

Nature's symphony puts our minds at ease.

Each flower tells a story of its own,

In this vibrant world,

we feel inspired.

Through the storms and the rain,

we’ll stand tall enough,

In every challenge,

we’ll learn, grow, and overcome;

Hand in hand,

we’ll face what’s ahead,

In this seasonal shift,

our talent grows.

So let the flowers blossom,

 and the laughter flow,

In this moment of inspiration,

we’ll let it show.

In blossom,

we admire the natural spirit.

In this beautiful world,

natural phenomenon inspires us all.

Idea Fluency

Embrace the diversity, let truth be our guide. Together we’ll flourish, let’s bridge the divide.

In a world full of sounds,

where thoughts flow around,

Different paths we wander,

But we’re all on this ride.

insight and visions,

Sometimes hard to find,

Yet in the change as the new normal,

We shall ponder around,

 Take our own path to lead up.

Let’s bridge the divide,

find common ground,

In the throngs of our struggle,

Together we’ll thrive.

With open minds,

we’ll share what we hold,

In the idea generation,

let our stories unfold.

Every point of view,

like colors in the sky,

Blending into pieces of art,

if we dare to try.

Conversations spark,

shape fresh ideas of all kinds;

In the woven threads of thoughts,

we’re shaping who we are.

So take a step closer,

reach out what you want,

In the unity of voices,

together we stand up.

Let’s break down the walls,

let the dialogue speak up,

In the idea divide,

we’ll lubricate, unify,

let our ideas flow around.

In the end, we’ll discover,

this is a multidimensional world,

 beyond what we thought of.

In the idea flow,

our journey’s just begun.

Embrace the diversity,

let truth be our guide.

Together we’ll flourish,

let’s bridge the idealistic divide.

NAFSA Annual Conference 2025 with a Theme of "Purpose, Place, and Partnership"

 NAFSA could be the strategic partner for global visionaries, change agents, and innovators in driving progressive changes and advancing human society.

In late May, San Diego is full of sunshine, people come here not only to enjoy the ocean view, great scenery, but also to participate in professional conferences or events, and take all sorts of fun activities.

I was heading to the San Diego conference center for the annual NAFSA conference, which is one of the largest events for advocating international education and humanity.

Thanks for NAFSA's kind invitation, which made my registration process go smoothly, so I could focus on understanding and sharing insights with participants across the world.

 It's just about 7:30 am in the early morning, but there were already lots of people arriving in the conference halls of the convention center. This year's conference theme is "Purpose, Place, and Partnership." There were thousands of attendees in the field of international education from all over the world who came here to learn, brainstorm, and provide great solutions.

The conference hosted hundreds of seminars, workshops, expos, poster fair presentations, and many concurrent learning sessions. As a first timer, I was impressed by the conference agenda; So many well-educated professionals all over the world came here to advocate international education, peace, and justice, with the goal to continue advancing humanity.

History of NSFSA: NAFSA -Association of International Educators was founded in 1948. Initially established as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers, the organization was created to support professionals involved in the field of international education and exchange. Over time, NAFSA expanded its focus to include a broader range of international education activities.

Value: NAFSA believes that international education lies at the core of an interconnected world characterized by diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and well-being for all. NAFSA aims to strengthen the role of international education in fostering understanding and cooperation among nations. This includes fostering international education and collaboration, enhancing global learning opportunities, and advocating for policies that improve access to education worldwide.

Themes: The main themes for NAFSA conferences typically focus on:

2025: “Purpose, Place, and Partnership”: This year's theme is about building sustainable opportunities for global learners.

2024: "Resilience. Renewal Community": This theme underscores the global imperative for social justice and access, and advocates for the well-being of all

2023: "Inspiring an Inclusive Future": This theme emphasized the importance of inclusivity and diversity in international education.

NAFSA 2025 Plenary: I participated in the Plenary panel discussion presentation on May 29th, the female CEO of NAFSA hosted this program, and a few global academics and professionals shared their thoughts about international education, the effort they put in advocating higher education, especially in those areas with political turmoil.

NAFSA 2025 Poster Fair Presentation: On one side of the exhibition hall, attendees walked through the hallway to read through hundreds of posters which introduced international education accomplishments, global student exchange programs, the IT-enabled education application presentations, and safety & security issues, etc.

Workshops & Presentations: I went to a session called "Lights, Camera, Action" Storytelling, activism, and Social changes. The presenter shared some documentary films about social phenomena in Europe, advocating higher education for the people in rural regions. Some presenters shared their thoughts about the education's role in bringing peace and social justice.

I also went to the presentation, which introduced how Information Technology, such as AI and other application tools, makes a significant impact on international education management and innovation. I believe we should put more effort into promoting personalized education and people-centricity.

At the pavilion stage in the exhibition hall, NAFSA staff presented their membership services and solutions. I also listened to the presentations in the exhibition hall, a few young students shared their experience on helping students & their families in Africa and other rural areas in using technology to continue their international education program. The young lady felt very emotional when she shared her experience on how their team helped residents in Africa build water centers and education programs, improve their life quality, and explore international education opportunities.

NAFSA Expo: When we walked through the grand exhibition hall, I knew we live in a peaceful global world, people all over the world came here to introduce diverse education programs, as well as higher education-related solutions. When I chatted with those representatives, they were all friendly, passionately introduced their institutions, communities, and societies to me. That made me want to visit more nations all over the world. Sometimes, when the presenters pointed out certain social problems in one region of the world, when I chatted with the education representatives coming from that nation, they had a different viewpoint; I feel a lot of nations all over the world have made significant social progress. That's why we should always listen to both sides of the story. Most importantly, we need to shape our own independent perspective based on objective facts, personal experience, and the value we could bring to the world.

There were so many universities and colleges coming from Europe, Asia, South and North America to exhibit and do presentations, but I didn't see a lot of booths from the African area. I believe they also have some great international education programs in those nations.

Highlight: NAFSA's annual conferences focus on various themes related to international education, providing a platform for professionals to discuss challenges, share best practices, and explore new opportunities. Overall, the four-day NAFSA conference was a fulfilling experience. The highlights of the conference include such as:

Innovative Practices: Sharing best practices in international education.Policy Advocacy: Addressing regulatory and funding issues in international education.Diversity and Inclusion: Promoting equitable access to education.Technology in Education: Leveraging digital tools for global learning.Resources & Support: Providing Professional Development Resources & Training

I believe NAFSA has spent decades building up an international education infrastructure and platform on which people all over the world can influence and promote the value of education. NAFSA could be the strategic partner for global visionaries, change agents, and innovators in driving progressive changes and advancing human societyThere are still so many complex problems in the world we need to solve collaboratively; so many initiatives we should work together to harness innovation. More industries should get involved to improve global education effectiveness and amplify leadership influence across the world.

Redefine "What Is Possible"

So lift your vision higher, let your voice be heard. In the symphony of change, inspirational thoughts become fresh ideas...

In the shadows of doubt,

where passion seems to fade away,

We gather our courage,

we’re unafraid of outdated common beliefs,

conventional wisdom.

With every pattern of silo,

we’ll break down the walls,

Together we’ll make it,

we’ll advance the human world.

Let’s redefine what is possible,

Beyond the limits,

we’ll stand firm enough.

With beliefs in ourselves.

Together we’ll chase the doubts away,

light the way forward.

Every setback we face is-

 a chance to grow,

With passion as our guide,

we’ll let our spirits flow.

In the journey of growth,

we weave our own thread,

With talent intertwined,

we’ll forge ahead.

So lift your vision higher,

let your voice be heard,

In the symphony of change,

we play different instruments.

We’ll break the silence,

we’ll make our stand,

In the power of unity,

we’ll harmonize the world.

So here’s to the visionary,

the bright future unfolded.

With a vision so bright,

we’ll rewrite history.

In the journey ahead,

we’ll find our own road,

Let’s redefine what is possible,

at the present future.
