Shades of Blue

This show has potential.  The shades of blue in the title refer to the shades of moral quality found in the main characters.  Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta both play corrupt New York City cops.  Despite being corrupt, they are both cops and do their jobs, even if they stretch to law to do them.  The FBI discover that Lopez is corrupt and coerce her into trapping Liotta, so they can bust him.  Reluctantly, Lopez does as she’s told because she doesn’t want her daughter to grow up on her own while her mother is behind bars.  Lopez is always busy.  When she isn’t trying to trap Liotta, she’s fooling around with other women’s boyfriends.  Another one of her shades of blue morality.  Ray Liotta is volcanic as the corrupt cop with an explosive temper and keeps the show interesting.

New Ethan Carr Mystery Thriller Due out in 2016

Bryan Cassiday’s newest Ethan Carr mystery thriller Dying to Breathe will be released in 2016.

Private investigator Ethan Carr is hired by Constance Barnes, a history professor at the University of Southern California who claims she is being stalked by someone who is sending her cut-up photos of herself. When fellow professor Melanie Kowalski, who also received cut-up photos of herself, is murdered in brutal fashion suggesting S&M, Carr suspects Barnes is being stalked by a serial killer.

However, Barnes has psychological issues and is being treated by a psychiatrist who says she might be imagining her stalker. The CIA and the FBI become involved and warn Carr to butt out of the investigation of Kowalski’s murder.  And if that’s not enough, attempts are made on his life.

Do the FBI and the CIA know who the serial killer is? And if so, are they trying to protect him? These are but a few of the questions Carr must answer, as he battles his own psychological demons that forced him to quit the police force years earlier.

Jack Higgins

I always look forward to a new thriller from the master of the genre Jack Higgins.  He usually puts out at least one book a year, but I haven’t heard any reports of a new book by him for this year.  I hope he’s in good health and that he’s working on a new thriller.  His Sean Dillon thrillers are always great reads.  Even when they’re not his best, they’re better than any books that other thriller writers are producing.  As far as I know, the last book Higgins published was Rain on the Dead in 2015.

His trademark economy of style and his intricate international plots are always enthralling and will be missed if he has decided to retire.  He is a great writer, and I admire his thrillers.

I think the first book I read by him was Night Judgment at Sinos.  I believe I have read all of his scores of books.  His Sean Dillon thrillers are my favorites.

Another Good Bond Movie

I saw Spectre today.  I enjoyed it.  I especially liked the first scene that unfolds during a ceremony of the Day of the Dead in Mexico.  The whole movie has a brown and sallow murky feel to it, emphasizing its dark thrills and adding to the tension.  Don’t expect to see the sun in this movie.  Even when the action takes place during the day, the light looks smoggy or grey, conveying a feeling of dread.  Bond drives a beautiful new Aston Martin DB 10 this time around.  It’s a shame the way it ends up.  I would have liked to see it in the next Bond flick.

The Bond franchise is alive and well.  Hands down, one of the most entertaining thrillers of the year.  Just overlook the net and sofa that are conveniently present to prevent Bond from falling to his death a couple of times and enjoy the ride.
