In the Studio: Another (almost) wordless book
My very first book, a project for me while The Caretaker of Imagination was with Jane, was a wordless book called What Stars Are Made Of. It told the story of a star-maker, who would take the fear, sorrow and anger from children and build them into a star. The story was told through paintings, originally acrylic on paper. Out and About: Hamilton Zinefest [gallery]
So last weekend I had the pleasure of participating in my very first zinefest in Hamilton, a couple hours’ south of where I live. I met up with some writer friends, old and new, bought lots of zines, and even sold a few. Thank you to everyone who stopped by my table for a chat, and to everyone who purchased something from me, or offered me a trade. From the Bookshelf: Singing Bones & Daydreams for Night
I don’t buy (new) print books for myself often, mostly because they’re pricey here in NZ, but last week at the bookshop a new book came in that caught – and held – my attention and, more importantly, my imagination. Its title, Daydreams for Night, is fitting. The stories are strange, snapshot tales, that have a real dreamscape quality to them.
