Coolness….
So I’m up in the north woods of Wisconsin right now. One of the few places on earth without cell phone coverage or easy wifi access.
I was hoping to post up a different blog today containing some cool news, but due to the fact that I’m working on a netbook and using using borrowed wifi right now, I think I’m going to have to postpone that until Monday.
Instead, today I’m going to do two things:
1. Let y’all know that we have finally settled on a venue for my upcoming Reading and Signing in Chica...

Upcoming Events
I’m doing to be doing some traveling in the next couple weeks. (I’ll be in Indianapolis, Chicago, and Seattle.) I figured I’d pass along my schedule so y’all are properly clued-in and can stop by my events if you want to.
Also, if y’all happen to know someone who might be interested in hitting one of these events, you’d be doing be a great favor to me if you passed this info along.
There are few things I hate more than coming back from a city where I just did a couple of events, (let’s pick Sea...

The Story Board – Episode #1
For those of you who missed it live, here’s the first episode of the The Story Board.
All in all, it went fairly well. Most importantly, we avoided any major catastrophes.
That’s always my worry when doing something like this for the first time, that the technical end of things will go up in a huge conflagration of suck.
Luckily, I managed to hold everything together through a sheer effort of will. You might think I’m exaggerating my own importance here, but I’m not. I know this because about 8...

Showtime
Okay folks. It took some doing, but I’ve finally got everything lined up for the first episode of my show on Geek and Sundry.
What’s that? You want to know what the name of the show is? The name we picked from thousands of suggestions?
After a lot of deliberation, we settled on The Story Board.
We’ve got a logo and everything.
It’s got Latin in it, so you know we’re all kinds of posh.
Our first show is going to be about Urban Fantasy and our guests are Emma Bull, Jim Butcher, and Diana Rowland.
Jim...

Foreshadowing….
We’re getting close to the launch of my show.
How close? So close that I’ve settled on a title. Yeah. Pretty crazy, huh?
We’re going to have a logo and everything. This makes me feel very professional. Not at all like the sort of person who barely managed to pick the name for his show less that a week before it goes live….
When is the show? Why I’m glad you asked. It’s going to be the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 Pacific time.
That means this first show is going to be Tuesday, August 7th....

A Happy Ending…
Those of you who follow my Facebook page might have caught wind of a little adventure I had out at San Diego ComicCon this year.
Specifically, you might have read this post I made on Saturday night.
* * *
Okay. Everybody, I need your help.
I’m at ComicCon. I met a lovely Swedish fan who said that she’d flown out to the con mostly to see me.
I said, Wow. Really?
She said, Yes Really.
So I got her phone number, and told her that when I had a spare couple hours I’d call her so we could grab cof...

A rose by any other name….
So I just read all the comments on the last blog. All of them. Over a thousand comments. It turns out that doing such a thing takes slightly more than three hours.
The good news is that my faith in the cleverness of my readership was definitely justified. Y’all came up with some really good names.
I’m going to share some of them with you here, partly because they deserve attention, and partly because I just spent three hours reading them, so you’re going to share this experience with me whether...

Cool news and a desperate cry for help…
Some of you might remember that when Felicia Day launched Geek and Sundry, she did a 12 hour live Google Air subscribathon in order to help spread the word.
I helped out in a small way, bringing in some other authors to talk about writing. Specifically, we talked about what makes for compelling characters.
I had a blast, partly because I’m terribly fond of the folks involved in the discussion: John Scalzi, Felicia Day, and Amber Benson.
But mostly I had a good time because I love talking about s...

Rothfuss and Brooks: Part IV
Here’s the final installment of the mutual interview I did with Terry Brooks. If you’d like to start at the beginning, here’s Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.
And now, without further ado, Part 4….
* * *
Pat: What’s your revision process like? How many drafts do you go through?
Terry: I outline pretty thoroughly before I put pen to paper. I don’t write anything until I have it all pretty clear in my head, then I do the outline, and then I do the book. This doesn’t mean there won’t be changes, some of...

Interview with Terry Brooks, Part 2
When I got the opportunity to do an interview with Terry Brooks, I was delighted. And by delighted, I mean terrified.
I mean, I’ve been reading Brooks for roughly two thirds of my life. And now I was supposed to ask him questions?
Luckily, as soon as we started to e-mail back and forth questions, my anxiety melted away and our discussion really took off. Eventually we had an interview longer than some novellas.
So we decided to break it up into four pieces, split up between Terry’s blog and mine...
