More Convention News: Worldcon and PAX….
So earlier in the year, I annouced my current con schedule. On that schedule, I mentioned that I’d be hitting Worldcon, just like I do every year…
But about a month ago, the folks from Penny Arcade contacted me and asked if I’d like to come out to PAX.
I said I would like to come, I’ve wanted to hit PAX for *years*, but PAX overlaps Worldcon, and I already had plans.
Then they clarified, they wanted me to come out to PAX and play some D&D.
I told them it was tempting, as I do love me some tableto...

Fanmail Q&A: Con Schedules
Dearest Patrick
I know you’ve hit San Diego Comic-Con the last couple years. Are you going to be doing it again? I finally got a badge for this year, but I haven’t had any luck discovering when/where your panels and signings are.
My boyfriend isn’t as lucky as me, and doesn’t have a badge. We live in the San Diego area though, are you don’t any events that *aren’t* at the convention? As much as I want to taunt him, he’ll be really sad if he misses your trip entirely.
Emily
Sorry about that, Emily...

An Update and a Story
It’s been a busy week here at Worldbuilders central. We got a surprising number of orders for Unfettered in the Tinker’s Packs, along with people taking the chance to buy t-shirts, posters, and other assorted ephemera.
After I mentioned the book on Monday’s blog, we had about 500 orders, which is (if you’ll excuse my language) a shit-ton of orders for us to process in a week. But my team rose to the challenge, stared it grimly in the eye, and destroyed it.
Or, if we didn’t destroy it, we at lea...

A Little Something to Tide You Over…..
Want to hear something strange?
My first short story ever has just been published.
I didn’t even realize it until just now, as I sat down to write this blog. But it’s the truth.
Here’s the thing. I’ve been published in anthologies before. That happened long ago in 2002 with Writers of the Future Vol 18. That was the publication that got me started.
My piece in that anthology was called “The Road to Levinshir.”
But it wasn’t really a short story.
For one thing, if you want to be nit-picky, it was 14...

Idiom’s Delight
When I was in Columbus recently, I met a reader that I’ve known for a long time….
For those of you who have been reading the blog for a while, you might recognize her name: .
She told me that she really liked the Cealdish idiom that I put into Name of the Wind, “Don’t put a spoon in your eye over it.”
For those of you who don’t know, an idiom is a phrase that means something other than what it means. For example, when you “pull someone’s leg” you’re not *really* pulling their leg...

My Rambling Thanks (And a Song)
Sorry for the Radio Silence here folks. In addition to the pleasant madness of the end of the Kickstarter, I also had a bunch of other things fall on me at the same time.
They included (but are not limited to) sickness, a car crash (everyone is fine), flight delays, cancellations, Worldbuilders running its first-ever serious booth at Origins, (blog to follow), seduction, piracy, storm, shipwreck….
I’m not going to dwell on any of that now. Suffice to say that in the end, it took me sixteen days...

Name of the Wind Kickstarter: Final Days and the Coolest. News. Ever.
Honestly folks, I don’t even know where to begin today. I’ve got a lot of cool news to share about the Kickstarter.
And this is legitimately cool news. Not bullshit cool news that I just made up so I could pimp the project one last time .
(Click to Embiggen Devi)
Because it *is* over in less than two days. Be warned.
Note: Please stay tuned to the end. Or skip directly down there. We have stunning news at the end of the blog.

Upcoming Events in Ohio and Cool News
So next week I’m going to be down in Ohio for a convention and a reading.
Here’s the straight skinny….
The Reading/Signing/Q&A.
The reading is Thursday the 13th at 7:00 at Beehive books in Delaware.
As with all of my events, I’ll show up, read some stuff, and answer any questions people might have.
And by “Answer questions” I mean that if you ask me a question, I will tell a rambling story that may in some way relate to the topic of your question.
Also, there will probably be some jokes. And maybe...

My First Kickstarter – Name of the Wind Playing Cards
Okay, I’ve wanted to write about this for a while now, but I’ve just been too busy.
Ready? .
Okay. Hopefully I have your attention.
A while back, I fell in love with the work of Shane Tyree when he was doing a kickstarter for a deck of Cthulhu playing cards. I boosted their signal on facebook, they donated to Worldbuilders, and we bought some cards to sell in the Tinker’s Packs. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Later, I was delighted to find out that Shane...

A Paean for Gaiman or What I Learned Reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane
So Neil Gaiman has a new book coming out in June. It’s called The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
I mention this for those of you who live deep in the wilderness or high atop some craggy mountain. (I’m assuming you access my blog with the help of some sort of friendly pigeon, or by using a type of prana-bindu meditation.)
I assume everyone except a complete eremite knows this book is coming out. Because generally speaking, I’m pretty clueless, and I’ve known about it for over half a year.
That mea...
