Goodbye London, hello Seattle, and an excuse to buy books.
So I’ve been traveling a lot lately.
(Witness the excellent Adem cosplay that happened in London.)
While that means I get to meet a lot of you in person, sign books, and make all manner of amusing tweets about my first time riding first class. It’s not exactly conducive to writing blog posts.
(A great Kvothe from Avilés in Spain.)
I’m back from Spain and London now, and PAX is right around the corner. After that, I’ll hopefully be able to catch up on a few posts I’ve been wanting to write for som...

Ice Bucket Challenge
I’m assuming at this point that you’ve heard about the Ice Bucket Challenge.
I’d heard about it. And it struck me as something fun and silly. But I didn’t have much desire to participate.
For one thing, I already do a bunch of charity work with Worldbuilders.
For another thing, I live in Wisconsin. That means for about 3 months out of every year just walking outside is like getting a bucket of ice dumped over your head.
I figured I’d be tagged eventually. But my intention was to smile, nod, make...

Novelties: Signed Books for July and August
As some of you who follow my facebook and twitter might have noticed, I’ve been traveling a lot lately.
That, combined with the fact that our Geeks Doing Good fundraiser went incredibly well, means that I, and the rest of the Worldbuilders Team, have been absolutely swamped the last few weeks.
Well. *I’ve* been swamped. The worldbuilders team just seems to be lounging around on… oh. Wait. Those are packing peanuts, aren’t they?Like, a billion packing peanuts for the billion packages we’ll be s...

My Far Wanderings: San Diego and Spain
So this week begins the pure madness of my convention season.
Amanda and I did the math a few days ago and realized that between now and mid-September, I’m only home for15 days. And those days are not all in a row.
First on the docket is…
San Diego Comic Con
I’ve made a habit of SDCC for years now, but this year I’m trying something a little different.
Because I hate being away from my family for large swaths of time, Sarah, Oot, and Cutie Snoo are coming with me to the con.
(The shirt was a gift....

Sophie’s Choice
I just had an unexpectedly harrowing experience on the internet.
While I like to think that I’m immune to clickbait, occationally I leave the high road and tumble gracelessly down into the muddy ditch where I roll around with all the giddy enthusiasm of a dog who’s just found a particularly feculent turd.
(Pat pauses for a moment, looking up at the sentence he just wrote, and thinks that sometimes, just maybe, he should dial the vividity of his phraseologer down from 11.)
Anyway, I stumbled onto...

Our Triumphant Conclusion, Chocolate Malts, and the Name of the World
So it was Monday the 14th, the last day of our experimental IndieGoGo fundraiser.
Things were going better than we’d expected. We were already at $125,000 on Monday morning. And because of generous geeks donating and spreading the word, we’d been raising about $5,000 dollars hour all day.
Around 5:00 PM at the temple, Maria refreshed the page and said, “$170,000!”
We’d just finished up a meeting, so the whole team was there. She looked at us. “I think we’re going to beat $200,000,” she said. Her...

Geeks Doing Good: News, Final Additions, and Cuteness
Well, we’re in the last couple days of our experimental fundraiser, and things are going remarkably well.
As I write this, we’re cresting over $80,000 dollars in our experimental mid-season fundraiser, and I couldn’t be happier. There have been a few bumps on the road, but so far everything has been going amazingly well.
Today we have several pieces of news, and a bunch of new items we’re throwing into the fundraiser.
Let’s lead off with the big news:
Signed copies of Slow Regard of Silent Things...

Worldbuilders: Geeks Doing Good
I hope everyone had a lovely Fourth of July, whether you did it in a big national holiday way or not.
Despite a crushing deadline, I took the time to head downtown with Oot to watch the fireworks this year. We ate fair food, listened to music, and I bought him one of those cheap plastic toys someone’s always selling at events like these. It cost me $10, but I thought that was worth it to see a bit of joy on my child’s face.
I clearly wasted my money.
Pretty much as soon as I bought this thing, I...

The Upcoming Festivities….
Not to let the cat out of the bag early here, but I figured I’d share what we having coming up on July 7th with those of you who make a habit of reading the blog.
Maybe this is a little silly, but I think of y’all… I don’t know really. I don’t want to say something like “core readership” because if you start using phrases like “core readership” then odds are you’re not far from using the word “utilize” instead of “use.” After that you’re only a few steps from enthusiastically using the term ‘s...

Link Salad
It’s been a while since I posted up a blog full of random interesting links.
Here’s a few having to do with my books:
World Cup Widow? 8 Fiction Reads to Help You Escape Reality
It’s odd to me, showing up on the same list as Aldus Huxley, Angela Carter, and Margaret Atwood.
20 of the most powerful quotes on heartbreak in literature
Again, very flattering company. And I like the quote they used. I remember writing that one and being proud of it.
