WMF Photo Contest Part VIII: Costumes (Warning – Artistic Boobs)

Before we jump into the newest installment of the photo contest, I’d just like to take a moment and reflect on the subtitle of the above blog.

You see, a while back, I wrote a blog where I showed off pictures people had sent me of the tattoos people have gotten based on my books.

There’s a fair amount of skin in that blog, as you might expect, because, y’know… tattoos. I didn’t think much of it, because it wasn’t like you could see anything that would even rate a PG in a modern movie.

But aft...

Million Dollar Milkshake (and Novelties)

Guess what happened last year that I never really got around to talking about?

In 2014, for the first time ever, Worldbuilders raised 1,000,000 dollars in a single year.

Last year two things happened that pushed us over the top.

1. We had our best holiday fundraiser ever, raising more than $880,000 dollars (as you can see if you look at the Worldbuilders website.)

2. We tried an experimental mid-season fundraiser on Indigogo that was so successful that I actually lost a bet with the Worldbuil...

WMF Photo Contest Part VII: Sexy

Well folks, time for me to expiate another tiny crumb of my crushing karmic debt by posting up part seven of the long delayed photo contest.

Previously: [Prologue] [Part I] [Part II] [Part III] [Part IV] [Part V] [Part VI]

This is the blog that many of you have been waiting for: the sexy blog.

S

(Like so.)

“But Pat,” I hear you say, “What does that picture have to do with sex?”

Trust that all will be explained, my faithful readers. Context is important. Trust that each of these pictures has so...

C2E2, Collectibles, and Charity

Last year I gave C2E2 a try and was kinda surprised how much I liked it. As conventions go, it’s a nice mix of fandoms, with a lot of different stuff going on. It’s busy, but nowhere near as crowded as San Diego or New York Comic Cons.

Plus, it’s in Chicago, so I can pretty much throw a rock and hit it. The more I travel, the less I enjoy traveling. So that’s a big factor for me…

So I’ve decided to head back there again this year. I’ll be doing panels, signing books, and just generally nosing...

WMF Photo Contest Part VI: In Book References

Okay folks. Today we’ve got Part Six of the embarrassingly delayed photo contest.

Earlier parts here: [Prologue] [Part I] [Part II] [Part III] [Part IV] [Part V]

Today we’ve got a category that we’re loosely referring to as, “In book references” or that Oot might refer to as a bit of a “Brain Quest.”

In short, they’re books that you have to think about a little bit to understand what’s going on…

Cut Flower

Oh… right. It’s the cut-flower sound of a photo contest that I started back in 2011…

This one to...

Suvudu Cage Match: Felurian vs Death

Last month I made a blog post about Felurian being in the Suvudu cage match this year. Since then, she’s defeated Johana Mason and Sabriel.

Last week’s match up was against Susan Sto-Helitfrom Discworld. The voting was pretty insane, and for the vast majority of the time it was closer than a percentage point.

Cage Match2

(A lot of times the gap was was less than two-tenths of a percent.)

In my first blog, I mentioned that I wanted to write the scene where Felurian went up against Death. But honestly, th...

A New Convention: Nerdcon Stories

Heya everybody,

Today’s blog is going to be really brief because I’m in Seattle, and I just have a few hours until my first panel here at Emerald City Comic Con. And after that I just have a couple hours before my show with Paul and Storm and Joel (As I mentioned in my previous blog.)

So this blog is just a quick heads up about something cool that’s happening.

For about a year now, I’ve been chatting with John and Hank green about setting up a convention. A convention that centers around our...

Shows in Portland and Seattle & Emerald City Comic Con

Heya folks,

I’m currently in Germany, having a grand ole time. It’s a real sausage party around here.

And I mean that in a good way. I brought the family with me to Germany, and during one of our first meals here, we ordered Oot a meal called “The Sausage Pan” which had four different types of German sausage.

Personally, I was just playing the odds. I figured that if there were four different types of sausage there, the odd were good that he’d like one of them. And I would eat the rest. Becau...

Suvudu cage match: Felurian…

So Suvudu is doing it’s yearly tournament of fictional characters, and in an interesting twist, they’re filling the entire bracket with female characters.

I was flattered to discover that they picked Felurian to fill one of the 32 slots.

Felurian

(Faboo Felurian Art by Craig Paton)

Felurian made it through the first round, and right now she’s battling Johanna Mason from the hunger games. And not that Johanna isn’t cool and all, but personally, I think Felurian has a bit of an edge in that particular figh...

Novelties: New Releases, White Rabbits, and My Appearance at PAX East

Novelties is fast becoming one of my favorite things we do. I love that we get to spread the word about cool new books, games, and geekery while raising money for charity at the same time.

What’s more, the longer we do this, the more folks come to us with new and interesting things for us to show off….

For example…

Abomination ARC. SignedbyGary Whitta.

It was really cool for Worldbuilders to be contacted by Gary Whitta. For those of you who don’t know him, he’s a screenwriter best known for The B...
