New Pricelessness from the NRA

Boom. And there it is. The NRA’s newest publicity stunt.

NRA’s latest ad campaign – “Good Guys” – is an odd ode to the 1950s, an era when life was clearly a ton better, easier, sweeter, milder and more honorable and a time when government was clearly more representative and more honest. Well at least for the white guys in charge. Cause I’m pretty sure the 1950s version of us (anyone not male, white, or privileged) didn’t have it so great and I’m pretty sure government wasn’t so accountable back then.  (Internet anyone?)

The new campaign includes 11 videos essentially declaring that the cornerstones of America – government, law enforcement, right to privacy, the media, neighbors, and yes – parenting – I am not kidding – are under threat. According to Mr. La Pierre, the target audience is those among us (??) that are “…worried the character of the country is at risk. It’s all collapsing.”

“At risk of collapsing” from what? Well, that’s not clear. And the NRA surely doesn’t spell it out. Cause if they did, they would sound ridiculous.

Because you know what the 1950s is afraid of?

Modernization.

So, if you’re afraid of the future. Golly gee whiz, Beaver, join the NRA.

Cause that’s the answer. Yup. Sure it is.

Cool New Ad Campaign Against Kroger from Moms Demand Action

Digging this new ad campaign by Moms Demand Action. Very savvy to contrast what Kroger will allow (guns) against what Kroger won’t allow (eating, skateboards and topless men.)  Uh, hello? Eating?  In a grocery store?  Cause that’s so much worse than guns.

I’m looking forward to watching for these on my fav online news outlets. Props for them taking out a billboard in Kroger’s backyard of Cincinnati too.

You know what else I’m really looking forward to?  The pricelessness that will be the NRA’s response.

Another limp NRA web persona

Uh, someone over at the NRA needs to stop creating limp social media personas.  I just stumbled across: http://www.huntfortruth.org

Let’s add it to the almost 30 (WTF?) other NRA websites, cause it’s such a heavy hitter, ya’ll. As of writing, the Hunt for Truth’s last post was from 2013, their Facebook has 896 likes, and their Twitter had 73 followers.

In case you don’t want to slog through the reams of nonsense on the website, let me pull the best quotes to sum them up (typos are theirs):

The Hunt For Truth Association hopes to educate the public about the LEGALramifications of the lead ammunition ban and predator reintroduction campaigns, and to keep people current with the latest NEWS on what is occurring scientifically and politically in the ongoing debate regarding lead ammunition and hunting and natural resource conservation policy.

Several media outlets have mischaracterized HuntForTruth.org and the Hunt For Truth Association as NRA controlled entities. While HFTA works with various NRA representatives, along with representatives from dozens of other groups, HFTA, to reiterate, has its own Board of Directors and Executive Director. The HFTA Executive Director and Board dictates HFTA’s actions and policies. We do hope that future reporters discussing the HFTA will be more careful and accurate in their reporting.

And just for shits and giggles, please note that their Ex Director was formerly the Regional Director with the National Wild Turkey Federation.

You can’t make this up.  Honestly.

Rachel Maddow Slams Gov. Christie

Yet again Rachel Maddow knocks it out of the park in less than 9 minutes.

She gives a quick overview of why high capacity magazines are an important issue then nails Gov Christie for his shameful politics.

That GOP primary must loom too large in Gov Christie’s future for him to have common sense or decency on this issue.

Senator Toomey’s Inadequate Response

I wrote a note to my senator – Hon. Pat Toomey (R.)- letting him know I’m a one issue voter.  That issue is gun control.

This was his shockingly inadequate response.  There is absolutely no mention of gun control legislation: what a majority of his constituents want.

He’s up for re-election in November 2016.  I intend to get out the vote for a senator who is actually responsive to his state.

toomey letter
