How to shorten and recover a readymade Roman shade
After my huge success recovering a cheap blackout Roman shade for Lucy's room with some pretty block print fabric, I decided I need at least one more custom fabric shade! Our upstairs bathroom gets crazy sun in the afternoons and I knew I'd have to hang something pretty but also very functional there. (We renovated it last fall, and it's not a problem in the fall/winter.) The problem with my readymade blackout shade project? The cheap Roman shades only come in a couple lengths (like 60") and tha...

My favorite source for affordable vintage rugs!
I've known for a long time that vintage rugs are the highest in cool factor, and there's no substitute for a natural fiber rug. But can be overwhelming and hard to get started shopping for them, and committing to ordering something online you know would be tough to return.
Well, I dove in recently... I had a couple of projects happening at once and bam! suddenly I'd ordered three vintage Turkish rugs within a couple months, all from the same shop I am so excited about!

How to make a slipcover using but preserving the old one as a pattern
The biggest DIY project in my recent home office renovation was a sewing project! Back to my roots, I guess! I've made slipcovers before (like this one in 2014 and these in 2016) but I was definitely more confident doing it by cutting apart the previous slipcover and modifying it (or doing a simpler chair...

Basketball poster turned decor - how to make sports art look great in your home!
Things I love: unique decor, meaningful art, updating something old, and making my husband feel involved in the look of our home.
I recently re-framed a poster Jason has had since childhood and hung it proudly in our upstairs hall. It can be hard to make sports-themed decor fit into a traditional, vintage rug-filled, historic home like ours, or with more feminine decor. But it can be done, here’s proof!

Vegetable garden update: planting starts
I’m really excited about the garden that we had last year and we're doing this year, and I was hoping to share updates once a month or so in the spring and summer documenting what we’ve done. It will help me in the future if nothing else! I haven’t gotten to do an update in a while though, so we’ll have to skip ahead from where we left off, where our veggie starts were growing from seed.
