"The Great Outdoors"

Happy June, my friends!

I do love my job, getting to write stories all day has been a dream come true for me. There is one drawback, however, I have to sit at a desk for way too many hours each day. The weather is gorgeous here, and I look out my window thinking I should be taking a walk or tending the backyard plants or just plain soaking up the sun. Maybe tomorrow…

I’m very excited to announce the release of my new novella, WILDE AND RECKLESS. This story is part of the RODEO KNIGHTS series with nine other authors. Each novella is a complete story and can be read on its own apart from the other books − though my fellow authors are incredibly talented, and I do hope you’ll check out their contributions to the series.

The official release date for WILDE AND RECKLESS is June 20th, but the book is available now for preorder. There is a slight mystery element to the story, and I had a lot of fun writing that. It’s not easy setting up clues, some of them false, and giving the ending a bit of a twist 

Here’s a short blurb I hope will entice you:
A string of mysterious accidents at the Easy Money Rodeo Arena cast newly hired livestock manager and former addict J.R. Wilde under suspicion. Needing this job to prove he’s back on track, J.R. enlists the help of the Knight Agency when local sheriff’s deputies dismiss the accidents as not intentional. Nurse practitioner and single mother Naomi Whitehorse works for the Easy Money as their on-site emergency medical staff. She herself only recently got her life together after her late husband’s unexpected death.

With a young daughter to raise, the last thing Naomi needs is to involve herself with a former addict who’s facing a lifetime of challenges. But because she believes in J.R.’s innocence, she agrees to help to solve the mystery of the accidents by being another set of eyes and ears — which puts her and J.R. in close proximity as they work together to uncover the real culprit. Danger lurks around the corner, but is it from the person targeting J.R. or his and Naomi’s impossible to resist attraction?

All the best to you, my friends. I’ve decided the heck with it and am throwing on my shorts. Great outdoors, here I come!

Warmest wishes,

Cathy McDavid

New Release Worries

Like a lot of writers, I worry when a new book comes out. Will readers resonate with the story? Care about the characters? Will they feel satisfied when they turn the last page? I admit (shh — this is a secret, don’t tell) the cover of A Baby for the Deputy isn’t my favorite. But I do like the story and enjoyed helping Aaron and Mel along the rocky road to their happily-ever-after.

“This had all the cutesy fluff you'd expect from a Harlequin Western romance with a hot sheriff and a cutesy plot moppet on the cover... but there was a great deal more besides to like about this story.”
5 Stars - Book Blogger Caitlyn Lynch

“This is a different kind of romance story, more realistic and modern type, with a secret affair and a baby on the way. There's also added family drama on both sides and horse thefts to be solved, giving definitely enough trouble and apprehension to built a great plot around.”
4 Stars - Books and Spoons

Whew! So far, it seems, readers have responded positively to the book and “gotten” the story I was trying to tell. Though I probably won’t stop worrying.

Luckily, my writer’s life isn’t all stress and strain. Sometimes, I get to have fun. If you have a few minutes, check out this very short video I posted on YouTube — my first ever. I was nervous, as I’m sure you can tell when you watch it. And where did all those wrinkles come from?

Lastly, if you get the chance, drop by my webpage and check out my completely updated look. I’ve been wanting to do something different for a while now and am really happy with the results.

Until next time, my friends, warmest wishes.
