Lyn Reviews Dame Agatha Christies’ MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS
Murder on the Orient Express and Other Hercule Poirot Mysteries by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I have been an avid Agatha Christie fan since –FOREVER. So this is not the first time I’ve read MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. However, I never tire of Dame Agatha’s intricate plots, her detective Hercule Poirot and the interesting locales she sometimes chooses for her mysteries. Of course, she was personally very acquainted with this train since she traveled on it many times with her archeologist husband. They’ve just made another movie of it, showing that people haven’t tired of her story.
I’d like to take this opportunity to scold the BBC for messing with Dame Agatha’s Jane Marple mysteries on Masterpiece Mystery. UGH UGH UGH. How dare they change the stories??? What demented scriptwriter thought he could change the beloved mysteries? I’d like to get the executive that made the DEPLORABLE decision in a room alone! (I must calm myself–getting heated here!)
Anyway don’t watch the icky rewrites–I watched two and then started to gag. Joan Hickson did the last “honorable” productions of Miss Jane Marple, another of Agatha’s detectives, my favorite.
So there you have my review and MY RANT!–:Lyn Cote

Amish Author Patricia Davids & The Day She Didn’t Want to Be Strong
Today I’m featuring a repeat of a blog which featres the story of an inspiring woman, Amish Author Patricia Davids who talks about the effect of often well meaning words and a day where she didn’t want to show strength. Here’s Patricia:
“You’re such a strong woman, Pat. You’ll get through this.”
I can’t tell you the number of people who said those words to me in the days following my husband’s illness and death last year. “You’re such a strong woman.” On the day of his funeral, I whispered to my daughter, “The next person who tells me how strong I am, I’m going to wrap my hands around their neck and show them just how strong I can be.”
I honestly didn’t want to do violence to my friends and family, but I didn’t want to be strong, either. Being strong meant I couldn’t fall apart. I couldn’t melt into a puddle of tears. I had to be the one who got things done. I had to make the funeral arrangements, call all the family, take his clothes to the mortuary and arrange for the dinner afterwards. I didn’t want to do any of those things. I didn’t want to be strong. I wanted to sit in a dark corner and weep.
Strength, like courage and faith, is something we hope and pray we will have when we need them. We can never be sure what we’re made of until we are called upon by the Lord to show our stuff.
Was I strong? I’m not sure. Was I brave? I have no idea, but things got done. Did I have faith? Yes, I know my beloved is with God, but it doesn’t make me less sad. I’m human, after all. Someone I loved was taken away from me. I survived. I’ve gone on with my life as best I can, but I will never tell a friend how strong she is in the face of her tragedy. Instead, I hope I will pick up as much of her burden as I can carry so she doesn’t have to be so strong.
Losing a beloved spouse is something we all dread and may have to face. I’m glad that Pat has been able to keep writing. What do you think is appropriate to say to a someone who has just lost a loved one? Suggestions?–Lyn

Lyn Asks for Feedback on Another Cover Model!
Hope it is. Here are the choices for the cover model. Yes, I know they are all the same young woman but I want to know which expression you think is most “engaging, evocative.” Which one would make a person-reader take a second look and perhaps click BUY?
Here are the other books in the series so you can see what this “expression” needs to fit in with–especially the first 3. The final 2 are holiday novellas and have a slightly different look.

And here is the model and her expressions.
CHOICE #1
CHOICE #2
CHOICE #3
CHOICE #4
So which do you think will fit best with the series and get the best response? And if you don’t like any of them and think I should search again for a model, you can say that too! As usual, I will hold a drawing and one of the commenters will receive a $10 amazon gift certificate! So comment please–Lyn

Lyn Reviews Edie Claire’s Never Steal a Cocktiel
Never Steal a Cockatiel by Edie ClaireMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked this up for free on my Kindle and it was the first Edie Claire mystery I had read. I have met Edie on the Net but just in passing. I didn’t know she was such a great author! Bravo, Edie!
Edie has created a lovely quirky cast of characters–first of all the heroine Leigh Koslow who is not perfect but imminenetly likeable. Throught the book we meet her family and circle of friends. Her mother who is an OCD housewife, her dad who’s an absent-minded but loving veternarian, and on and on.
In this book we have a family mystery and a nasty case of stupid and serial pet-napping. Great characters again–the pets and their owners.
