He explains that every reaction and normative behavior is based on a set of culturally defined ideals, especially in explanation of illness and disease. Sidonie Smith and Julia Watson agree that autobiography is a subjective act based on historical and cultural frameworks (Smith and Watson, **). This truth is evident in symptoms, as Klienman point s out.
