Blurb – The Mansion of Mirrors

Now I don’t want to get into trouble, so let me start by saying that this is a picture of Per Jacobsen’s debut novel which is NOT available in English yet. We’re still in the process of translating this very long novel, which is taking some time.

When I mentioned this book previously, a couple of you asked what the book is about, though.

So Per has translated the blurb which is as follows:

Blurb – The Mansion of Mirrors:

As a psychology teacher, Michael Bendixen is well aware that it’s not uncommon for people in grief to think that they see their deceased loved ones everywhere. Consequently, he tries to ignore it when he hears his dead son’s bright voice cut through the noise in the hallway of the high school where he works. He considers it a hallucination born from his grief. However, this reasoning is challenged as he is approached by a young girl who insists that she also heard the voice.
The girl is Lisa Vang, a seventeen-year-old high school student who, in the thirteen months since she suffered her own tragic loss, has had her own demons to battle, and the meeting between the two marks the beginning of a long and nerve-wracking journey that leads them to Urari—a parallel world to ours. A world in which mirrors reflect far more than just the observer’s physical traits.

It’s a very good book and I’m looking forward to when it’s translated and we can show it to you.

Have a great Saturday :-).

Lowering the shipping cost of signed books

As you may have seen, we do ship signed books and swag from this website, https://authorperjacobsen.com. But because we live in Spain, shipping is just incredibly expensive (it costs over 10 euros to ship to the US).
So we’re currently working on getting enrolled in a special ‘bookseller plan’ with the post office, so that we can get the shipping cost lowered.

That way we can hopefully get the prices down so it’ll be a little more fun ordering from the website :-).

I’ll make sure to keep you updated on the situation.

About Per Jacobsen’s writing process and his next project

So, in this photo you can see Per’s nice little writing space. And you can actually see what his next book will be from this photo ;-).

Funny thing about Per’s writing process. He has lots af ideas for books and he’ll go around thinking about these and at a certain point, one idea just becomes really clear to him.
This is also around the time when he’ll sometimes get this far-away dreamy look when we’re sitting in our favorite coffee shop having our morning coffee. And I can tell that he’s thinking about that story :-).
He’ll start writing the first few chapters, and then he’ll start working on the cover image. It’s very early in the process, I know, but once he has a draft of the cover, I know that this is what the next novel will be.
From then on, that cover image will be his screensaver on his laptop and work as a motivator, and he’ll just continue writing that story every day.

So yeah, there’s no doubt that you’ll see some version of that image on this laptop on this next novel. It’ll come out later this year. That’s the plan anyway :-).

Rose’s Story – now on audiobook

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that ‘Rose’s Story’ is now out as an audiobook!

Though it’s been ready for a little while, the journey of getting it approved and distributed to platforms like Audible, Scribd, Storytel, and others can be quite a process. However, the good news is that it has finally made its way to Audible, making it available almost everywhere!

Thank you to all of you who patiently waited for the audiobook version.

This prequel to The Strung Trilogy is narrated by the talented Tiffany Magnuson who has done an incredible job telling this story from Rose’s point of view.

Enjoy! 🎉

You’ll find ‘Rose’s Story’ on Audible right here: https://www.audible.com/pd/Roses-Story-Audiobook/B0D6NR1568

Michael Lucio – Narrator of The Strung Trilogy

Today, I’d like to introduce you to Michael Lucio, who has narrated all three books in The Strung Trilogy as well as Dry.

Mike has a background in performing arts, and he is a full-time voice-over actor, working from his professional home studio.

We stumbled upon his profile while searching for a voice actor with that ‘likeable’ voice that Randall needs to have. I can’t even tell you how happy Per Jacobsen and I were when we received Mike’s sample narration, back when we started the process of making the audiobooks. At that point, we had heard quite a lot of samples, but no one had really gotten the rhythm right.
But Mike just nailed both the rhythm and the different voices – and the quality was flawless.

It was a no-brainer to have Mike narrate the entire Strung trilogy, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Add to that, he’s been so great to work with during the entire process.

We felt a bit bad that we had to look for another narrator for the Strung prequel (Rose’s Story), but this was only because we needed a female narrator for that one 😊.

Mike will still be our go-to male narrator, that’s for sure. If you’ve listened to any of Mike’s work, what did you think?

Q&A – Per Jacobsen talks about favorite authors and books

Thank you to everyone who asked a question earlier this week. As mentioned, I’ll be posting his answers here on a regular basis and today I’ll post the first one.

QUESTION:

Per has a very different and unique style. I would like to know who his favorite authors are and what are his favorite all time books?

ANSWER:

Oh, that’s a difficult one to answer. There are a lot of great writers out there. But I’ll try to point out a few that stand out to me.

Stephen King. Let’s just get the big one out of the way first. I don’t think there are many authors in my genres that haven’t plowed through at least a dozen of his books. And yeah, I’ve enjoyed a lot of them, especially in my youth in the nineties. My favorite of his, though, is not even a fiction novel. It’s a book about the craft called “On Writing”. I learned a lot from that book when I started out. Of his fiction novels, I think my winner would be “The Long Walk”.

A couple of classics:
Cormac MccArthy, “The Road”. This is one of my all-time favorite books. He has a very interesting style, and the story is just great. Taught me a lot about how to set the mood of a story using the environment.
Frank McCourt, “Angela’s Ashes”. Besides being both entertaining and bleak, this book is an indirect course in writing great dialogue.
William Golding, “The Lord of the Flies”. Great book. Taught me a lot about symbolism and working in layers.
And my most recent book love affair:
Daniel Kraus, “Whalefall”. I read this book about a month ago, and I loved it. That guy is just at another level. His style is very unique, and it just works on every single layer. The premise is interesting, the prose is sublime and … well, it’s just good. Finding a writer with such a unique (and is this case very minimalistic) style is rare. It felt new.

Thank you to Dick Flamingo for this interesting question 🙂.
