C.M. Chang Hi, sorry I missed your question. To be honest, Offworlder was meant to be a standalone book, but I was asked to make it into a series. Offworlder #2 is currently hibernating. I'm not sure if I can self-publish myself. If I do, then it would certainly need editing if not an entire re-write. Maybe one day.... Sorry about this. In the meantime, I'm working on a 3-book feminist fantasy series - working title FISH. :-) All 3 books have been written, at least first draft.
C.M. Chang Tolkien's LOTR world! I would love to be one of those glorious elves. :-)
C.M. Chang I'm currently working on a feminist science fantasy series - FISH. My main inspiration was from my own life, having grown up with bias all around me - racial, gender, even religious. The society in FISH is a matriarchal one where men are 'familymen' and are considered overly emotional and the natural caretakers where the women are called 'lifegivers' for their ability to create life. In addition to the themes concerning bias, it is also a reflection on fundamentalism and how it blinds people and makes them go to extremes. Lastly, FISH is about climate change and how something well-intended can turn a world upside down.
C.M. Chang Creative people need creative outlets. I found this out the hard way when, a few years back, I experienced a near burnout. I was only doing things for others, never doing anything for myself. I look at it in terms of energy -- I was only giving away energy, but never replenishing my supply. I stumbled upon writing science fiction & fantasy and I have never looked back. I'm a super nerd so other creative outlets include sewing and playing classical piano (my fave composer -- Scriabin.) So for me, writing is not only inspiration, it's about keeping sane.
C.M. Chang Hello, Maud, unfortunately the publisher (LS) decided not to publish Offworlder #2. I've written it, however. Sorry about this! As am I. :-(
C.M. Chang Keep learning, keep writing. There is no other better advice IMHO.
C.M. Chang Fish. Have been for a few years actually.
C.M. Chang I am a goddess while being a writer. I create my own worlds, characters and do anything I want to them. I love it.
C.M. Chang I always find this a bizarre question. I have no problem with ideas, only time. Ideas are a dime a dozen, the trick is can you execute it? I treat writing a passion and a job. I just... write. If anything, first drafts are the easiest because it is 100% creation. Editing is where most of the work lies.
C.M. Chang To answer I need to look on my Kindle... Let's see.
The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula LeGuin.
Fairst: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.
Thruthwitch: A Witchlands Novel by Susan Dennard.
The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley.
Revels of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton.
Dreamsnake by Vonda McIntyre.
Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs.
Vazkor, Son of Vazkor by Tanith Lee.
Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones.
That's it for now!
