R.C.A. Nixon A crime novel called Dolly Trucker.
R.C.A. Nixon On the very busy Vancouver seawall walkway one day, a man did nothing to clean up his pet's crap. My friend interrupted our chat about books and said "you should write a book - '100 ways to cook dogs!'" We laughed and laughed like sixth graders, and started inventing recipes. The joke got pretty thin after German Shepherd's pie and Irish Setter stew and that would have ended it. But later I wondered to myself, under what conditions could someone become addicted to dogs meat? What would his life be like? How would he keep it secret from society's censure? And I soon saw that such a person must lead a life of subterfuge and grand adventure which, to me, are pretty great ingredients for fiction. So, damn me, I started working on "The Dog Eater's Lament", even though I love dogs - for walks, not dinner!
R.C.A. Nixon I am always inspired to write. The problem is getting from inspiration to the desk.
R.C.A. Nixon I am not in a position to give advice to people who are probably my betters.
R.C.A. Nixon I stop writing. Then, like the flu, it goes away for a while. Guilt tends to be a pretty good vaccine. But sometimes it doesn't work and I start to worry that I've got some terminal case of the disease, and there's no cure.
