Jessica Rydill I've just finished reading Winter Downs by Jan Edwards, which I really enjoyed.
On my Kindle at the moment, I'm reading Emperor of the Fireflies by Sarah Ash, the second book in her Tide Dragons series.
I've come across several indie novels and novellas I want to read, including The Last Temptation of Iago Wick by Jennifer Rainey, and The Thorn Harbour Road Ralley by Robert Dahlen. I would like to read Rotherweird by Andrew Caldecott, and a non-fiction book, Uprooted: on the trail of the Green Man by Nina Lyon.
Jessica Rydill Read a lot. Write. Edit ruthlessly.
Don't necessarily rush into print.
Jessica Rydill I'm currently working on the fourth book in the shamanworld series, called 'Winterbloom'. I also spend a lot of time not working on it as I have been bringing out my backlist as eBooks, which involved scanning them and then editing and revising them.

The main problem with Winterbloom was that it started life as a Sherlock Holmes/shamanworld merger, but I couldn't write proper fan-fiction, so I had to back-pedal quite a lot.

It introduces not one but two new worlds (not over-ambitious in any way).
Jessica Rydill Stuff pops into my head. Usually people pop into my head, and then I have to work out who they are, where they come from, etc.

I think the original impulse came from wanting to write like Tolkien. But I've always had imaginary worlds.
Jessica Rydill My most recent book is a sequel to the first two books. I wanted to write something on a larger scale and somewhat darker and more serious than my previous books. So I wanted to write about religious persecution of my magical characters, together with an enemy who threatened their very existence.
Jessica Rydill Making stuff up. And being allowed to do it!
Jessica Rydill I have yet to find the perfect solution. Reading, going on holiday, doing some other writing-related activity; these can all help.

I think that writer's block can often be caused by depression or some other problem. The best thing is not to worry. Unfortunately, you tend to worry a lot.
