When I run into an obstacle or plot point that doesn't work, I make a bullet list of ten possible solutions. Normally, they're all crap but one or two, and then I take it from there, or use those two decent bullet points to create a new list of possibilities. So, um, brainstorming.

Easy: Put stuff out there. Put stuff out there that you personally think is funny, clever, entertaining. I've written hundreds of things for free because I personally got a kick out of them, and it was one of these freebies that helped me land my best-paying ghostwriting gig and kick-started my book career.

I have another YA trilogy in the works that takes place in another galaxy. It's the TV show 'Lost' meets YA classic 'Lord of the Flies.'

I'm not really a fan of the horror genre, so for me the scariest movie I've seen in recent years is "The Blair Witch Project." So, that's where the witch part comes from... I was married on Cape Cod and after spending a few days there a year, I grew interested in its role in American history. And when I was in college, I went to a local 'haunted house' the townies called "Hell," and it was totally spooky.
