Finish. Forget perfect. Forget editing. Sit down, type/write/transcribe/however you get your ideas out of your head and recorded, and complete a project. You get better at writing by writing. And you get better at stories/novels by completing something. So even if you have to jot down an unrelated short story ~ 1000 words just to have a finished work under your belt, DO IT.

I knew I wanted to work on short stories, because I had the hardest time completing any of the novels I started. I finished one or two short stories on my own when I joined a writing group of my cafe coworkers. During the group meetings, we came up with various writing prompts and I used them to drive my creativity to come up with the rest of stories in Stranger Things Have Happened,
