Amy Myers Perseverance. Read other writers' books but never be put off by thinking 'I can't write like that'. Learn their skills in structure, approach etc, but the artistic side of it remains yours.
Amy Myers I don't think I can pick out just one 'best' thing. The happy things range from the rare times you feel you've written something good, whether it be a sentence, a paragraph or more, to the wonderful feeling that you don't have to rush for that commuting train any more. Caveat: you still have to get up at the same time, only it's not so far to rush to one's office if it's in your home.
