Have fun writing what you are interested in. Also consider what is fun and interesting for your target audience to read. It is fine to be influenced by other authors and books you like, but remember to try to be unique in your approach and execution.

When I teach classes, I tell students to just go onto the next thing to do. There is a long list of questions that need answers so keep going. If you don't know the title, then summarize the plot. Or name a character. Or describe the character. Or create another character. Once you fill in some blanks, then you might have the answer to the question you skipped in the beginning.

I enjoy reading our stories to as many children as possible. Sharing the book with kids in person makes the ideas and pictures come alive for both the author and audience. It is always encouraging hearing kids laugh, participate, read aloud, ask questions, and volunteer ideas for future books.

We wanted to create a new story with Asian American themes which could inspire readers to be creative too. Nowadays we take for granted practically everything we use or see, but someone (somewhere and some time) had to have created them. Therefore we decided to investigate noteworthy inventions from Asia that people are still interested in today. This was the genesis of our series The Asian Hall of Fame. The first adventure featured ramen and the second showcased fireworks and gunpowder. We're working on the third!
