The idea for Such Mad Fun came from reading the stories, poems, and articles Jane Hall wrote before she was 15, and then discovering her witty, articulate, and moving diaries and letters from the 1930s. I became fascinated by her personal and professional journey; Jane both participated in and observed the "culture of elegance" that movie audiences and magazine readers longed for during the Depression. I soon realized she faced challenges that are similar to those of many women today.
