My agent just brought a young reader book--a short novel--to editors. I'll be finished revising an adult literary novel this summer. I've drafted two essays, and parts of these will fit into a new nonfiction book that I'll be working on beginning this fall (2015).

Read and write a lot, and work with good teachers or befriend authors if you can. Write to finish things, even if they're just drafts.

You get to work alone, which I've always liked, but the best thing is finishing a piece or an entire book, and knowing that it's the best you could have done for who you are at this point in time.

I'm always reading new books, and I keep notebooks, so I almost never run out of having stories or essays that I want to work on.
