Hi Susan,
My apologies - I just saw this. I was there both days, yes. The location was so much better on Day 2!

Herbes de provence (http://crowdedearthkitchen.com/2014/0...) is my "go to" spice blend... I use this in a ridiculous number of recipes!
When baking sweet foods, my "go to" is either homemade vanilla extract or vanilla seeds scraped right from the pod. Delicious!

Writer's block is just an excuse to stop working. I try to stubbornly keep writing, as uninteresting as that sounds. My thinking is that the first draft doesn't have to be brilliant, it just has to be finished! The really creative work, for me at least, lies in revising and rewriting awkward first drafts.

She said this so matter-of-factly, and her language choice was so completely out of character, that the advice stuck with me. Now, I don't worry how ridiculous something feels/sounds in the back of my mind... I just keep typing, and know that I'll have the opportunity to slow down and clean it up later. :)

Work. Hard. Writing a quality novel will require ten times the effort you originally think it might, but the effort will be worth it in the end.

I'm working on the second book of my Cherry Harbor Series, which writes many of the characters from How to Bake a Chocolate Soufflé a little further into the background, and introduces dynamic new characters I hope my readers will love!

Inspiration only gets me through the first draft. From there, writing is an effort. In that sense, I'm inspired by the challenge!

My dedication page reads, "To the many fabulous women who are Famous At Abbott. You know who you are." That's about all I can say. ;)
