This is a fun question. We love myths and legends. We also enjoy spiritual books and engage in the Bible. To better understand the references that are told we often do research to try to see how everything ties together or how it could tie together. We talk about different possibilities to fill up holes in stories.
Here is an example. Most people know or have heard of Leprechauns. Leprechauns are from an Irish folktale that tells of these creatures making shoes, have a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow and will grant three wishes if they are caught.
Well one thought of ours is maybe a long time ago there was a smaller man that was a shoe maker. He came into a bind one way or another and robbed from some villagers. The villagers were on his tail so he decided to run into woods and hide the gold he stole. Maybe someone caught him and he offered them wealth in an attempt of bribery so this person would not turn him in.
I'm just throwing things out there, but it is fun to think about.

Every time you learn something new there are questions that lead to debates and conversations whether you watched a movie, read a folktale or history lesson. When you finish a book or a movie and you ponder on how it could have been different or better, well this was our chance to put something on paper to see how our ideas fit in this vast world.

We are working on our second book to this series right now. It is in the rough draft form.

Stick with it. A book is a long process and we generally keep to ourselves. We have regular day jobs at the moment and writing for a career would be a dream come true. Other people's excitement tends to dwindle if it takes a long time to write, but don't get discouraged and keep your excitement high. We are still learning and we are brand new at this.
Do not get discouraged. Getting advice from others for input is great, but keep in mind this is your work and if too many opinions get involved it can lead you astray. If you ask people's opinion, don't quit if you do not like the answer.

(view spoiler)[What you create is yours. It is your own world where different possibilities exist. If you do not like something, you can change it. Some of the research becomes tedious, but it is always fun to read old legends that may only be a paragraph long and interpret how it really came to be. Putting yourself in the character's shoes and finding a way to relate that person to us or someone we know is always fun. One of my favorite parts are making the heroes or heroines. One of my least is fillers. We don't want to write three pages on how a character walks through a field or grass with the blistering sun beating on his backside taunting his skin encouraging it to burn. We like to get to the guts of the story. (hide spoiler)]

This is a funny question. I found it best to take a drive and while I'm driving with the radio down I start thinking of different situations or what would make sense to me in my situation. If this didn't work I would write down different ideas and ask Heather for her opinion. Usually between both of us we could come up with something we could both agree with.
