My family began spending time in Bayfield, WI long before I was born. Many years later, when I was a college student, a well-known celebrity visited the town during on a kayaking trip with some friends. A framed news clipping from his visit still hangs on the wall of one of the town’s historic inns. At the time, when I heard about his visit, I wondered what would have happened if someone like him ever met and fell in love with someone from a small town like Bayfield. I imagined their lives would have been dramatically different. Would it ever work? That seed of an idea has been in the back of my mind ever since. It wasn't until I had a family of my own that I finally sat down to write the story.

It's never too late to start. If you have a story in your heart that you've always wanted to share, allow yourself the time you need to write it down. Sometimes that may mean fifteen stolen minutes. Other days, you may have the luxury of several quiet hours. Over time, you'll be astounded by what you're able to accomplish.

While I am eagerly anticipating the launch of my debut novel, FAMILY TREES on June 1, I am also working through edits for its sequel, BRANCHING OUT. I submitted the finished manuscript to my editor last week, and this morning I completed a reader's guide for anyone interested in hosting a book club event for one or both of the books. Some day, I'd love to hear readers' responses to some of those questions!
