I've always loved Robinson Crusoe and post apocalypse has been my favorite film genre. Putting them together seemed like a no-brainer.

The two most consistent pieces of advice are read and write all the time.
My advice is to know it's okay to not to be perfect. Just get through that first draft. You'll learn things along the way that will help you the second time around. never get stuck on those first couple chapters or you'll drive yourself kookie.
