Cindy Hurst I was going to say that I enjoy having control over a story line. However, after thinking about it further, I will admit that my ideas don't usually go in the direction that I intended them to. It's almost like the story has a mind of its own. Therefore, the answer would have to be, getting lost in my thoughts and seeing something come together. To me, in everything I have written, there’s just something exhilarating about it coming together!
Cindy Hurst First, don’t write to become rich. Statistically, it won’t happen. Instead, write because you love to write.

Second, never give up on your dream, but drop any arrogance! I decided that I wanted to be a writer over 30 years ago. Some people tried to discourage me. The novel took a long time. However, I did go on to publish dozens of articles, ranging from human-interest stories to articles and major studies related to national security, and of which have received global attention. Along the way, I've been blessed with fantastic mentors. No one likes to be told that an idea, paragraph, or whatever they have put their heart into, doesn't work. However, I listened to what they had to say and my writing and thought processes have only improved over time.
Cindy Hurst People who have read Berlin Dancer are asking if I will write a sequel. So, the gears are turning in that direction!
Cindy Hurst Sometimes I will jump to the next scene. I never write anything in a logical sequence anyhow. If that doesn't work, I step away. Sometimes I will go for a run. If I could jump in the shower each time, that would be great! I seem to get some of my best ideas in the shower!! Unfortunately, the water bill would be enormous!
Cindy Hurst Growing up, I was intrigued by the stories coming out of East Berlin before the Fall of the Berlin Wall. I wrote the first chapter years ago. Interestingly, that chapter has completely changed, along with the characters. However, the idea remains the same, and today that chapter forms the centerpiece of the novel.
