R.L. Herron My blind friend asked why I always bring my brother with me when I visit.

I don't have a brother.
R.L. Herron There are several, but I think first I would choose J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series of fantasy novels. I find it fascinating there are two separate and distinct societies: a Muggle world (which I would, unfortunately, have to be a part of) and a "wizarding world" - built of fabulous characters.
R.L. Herron "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry" by Neil deGrasse Tyson. And I just finished "Five-Toed Tigress" by T.W. Dittmer
R.L. Herron I suppose it might be the events surrounding the emigration of my earliest known ancestor. On a ship named The Paule, John Heron emigrated from what is now Northern Ireland to the colony of Virginia in 1635. What was the reason? Was he part of the Puritan exodus pf that period? Was it simply 18-yr-old wanderlust? Would that be enough to drive a person on such a perilous voyage, or were there other circumstances, as yet unknown, for such a young man to leave his home and friends, never to return?
R.L. Herron I published my sixth book, BLOOD LAKE in May, and I'm 44,000 words into my next book already. The working title is DEAD END STREET, and it's the fourth book in the "Reichold Street" series. I guess the characters had something else to say.
R.L. Herron I often have moments when the "right" words just won't come. So I write something different for a while. I take non-related pieces of the day's junk mail...or I have someone suggest 3 unrelated items...and concoct a "flash fiction" story for myself using them. I've found the best way to overcome a momentary writer's block is simply TO WRITE. Let the words flow and worry about "correctness" later. For me, it seems to work.
R.L. Herron I'm one of the lucky writers who can find inspiration in so many of the things all around me...random comments from strangers...questions from my grandchildren...or memories (both pleasant and sad) of old friends. I have writers block occasionally, when the "right" words just won't come, but I never lack for inspiration. I love to write and find that inspiration is all around me. All I have to do is look!
R.L. Herron If you really want to write, the best advice I can give you is READ! Read everything you can. Read the work of authors you enjoy. But don't just read their book and put it aside. Study it to understand what it is about their writing style that makes the story engaging to you. Once you understand it, put the same care into your own stories down until they shine! There's no better way to learn the craft.
R.L. Herron I finished my second novel ONE WAY STREET in the spring of 2014. It's a sequel to my award-winning 2012 book, REICHOLD STREET. The summer of 2015, I finished the third book in the trilogy, STREET LIGHT ... a powerful thriller where the characters discover not all evil is found in war ... some of it walks on the streets of home. I finished my award-winning horror novel, BLOOD LAKE, in 2016, and when I did I also discovered the characters from REICHOLD STREET still had something to say.
