Don't think I've had writers block. But sometimes I lack discipline and feel compelled to do the laundry, clean the fridge, or whatever else I can as a delay tactic. My bigger problem is that there are more things I want to write about than I can. BUT, if I get it, I will force myself to write something and go back and edit it and the lousier it is, the more I want to fix it and move on from there.

Join a writing group, or two! Take the time to find the writing group best suited for you, one who gives constructive critique. Learn to give constructive critique yourself. Writing is a lonely field and groups can offer so much: discipline, structure, feedback, craft, etc. Remember, to get, you must give as well.

I was a math major and worked in the computer field for 19 years. I loved to read history and came across a true story of a man, an African slave, who walked across the American continent 300 years before Lewis and Clark. I wanted to tell his story. I had to learn how to write first! Amazing true stories have inspired me to write.

I met three Lost Boys of Sudan in 2001 and became their mentor to adjust to life in America. This extraordinary experience compelled me to help Alephonsion, Benson and Benjamin to write their memoir.
