Barbara Eberhard There was a murder in my neighborhood. The guy everyone said did it was never caught.
Barbara Eberhard Pern! I love the world Anne McCaffrey created. I have wanted a fire lizard ever since I read the books.
Barbara Eberhard Throw ideas around. Put some words down on paper (or in Word) and see if it sticks. If it stinks, you can always delete it later. I've been fortunate not to have experienced much writer's block.
Barbara Eberhard It was a lifelong goal - so to have achieved it is wonderful. My fantasy series came from an idea I had in college, many years ago. I love being able to say I've written and published novels. I'm still very much an independent writer. But I don't mind that.
Barbara Eberhard Write! Just try it. And at least at first, like many others have said before me, be disciplined about it. Write for a certain number of hours on a certain schedule. Once you get into the rhythm of writing, though, I have found it becomes less of a chore and more of a "I can't wait to do this".
Barbara Eberhard I literally just started my ninth novel, title to be determined. Like many of the others, it will be a first-person narrative, driven by a strong female character. I have a good idea of the arc of the story, but am still working on the details. I have found that I usually write the first scene before I have the entire book outlined. Not sure why that is, but it's been working!
Barbara Eberhard Often dreams or ideas that come late at night. I have a bunch of notes in my iPhone of ideas that have come when I'm not in front of a computer. In general, though, now that I've started writing novels, I find myself unable to stop.
Barbara Eberhard In a dream. I had a dream about a couple, where she knew his secret and knew how to fix something broken in his life. He didn't believe her, of course. And that was the catalyst for what became The Gift for Michael.
