Harrison Phillips I like stories about elves and wanted to write one where all the characters were elves and the story just evolved from there. Of course there had to be conflict and danger along the way and so that part is standard, but the evil character has to be very menacing and the hero has to have some vulnerability.
Harrison Phillips I don't really have to get inspired to write it just seems to come naturally because I like writing. I like creating and hopefully what I create will bring people enjoyment as they are entertained. I'm an artist. I like to draw and find it gratifying that people respond well to my drawings. When I play guitar and sing to an audience it is nice when they applaud. I am a performer, an entertainer and giving people pleasure is my reward.
Harrison Phillips Currently I'm working on a new fantasy novel "The Talisman of Fendor". This takes place in mythical elvish kingdom where the hero and his friends do battle with an evil power trying to take over. Though the plot is a standard in the fantasy genre, it is in the telling plus the different creative nuances and devises used in the story that make the difference.
Harrison Phillips Don't give up on your dream. With today's self publishing platforms there is no reason for anyone to not be published. As an aspiring writer you have the best of it. Just make sure that the book you write is the best book you can write. Make it positively the best book on the subject for the reader to read. After all it's your name that's going on the cover, make that name mean something to the world.
Harrison Phillips Writing is creating a world, a mood, a feeling. It is for me the only profession I want to do. I wake up each morning grateful that I have found the perfect way for me to spend my days. It's like doing a hobby you enjoy for a living. Most people rush off to a job they can't stand, spend eight hours chained to a desk when they would rather be someplace else. I get to spend my days creating.
Harrison Phillips Writer's block has never been a real problem for me because I was given some really good advice a long time ago. That advice just do a mental dump. Write down everything in you head. It's very true that most of it will be garbage, but nobody's going to see it anyway. What this does do it start the juices flowing and pretty soon the good stuff in your head will start coming out.
