C.S. Servigna I separate myself from the story for a while. Read something completely different. Do something else. Suddenly, my hands itch to go back to the pen and the keyboard (yes, I use both)
C.S. Servigna You get to live more than one life. You live your 'real' life, the one in which all your senses are involved, and you live the life of your characters. You laugh and cry with them. You get to experience events that your 'real' life doesn't offer you. For someone like me, that lives in the dream world most of the time, it's great.
C.S. Servigna Write. Take any time you have in your hands and write something, anything. The more you write the better you will get at it, the faster you will find your voice.
If I can give one more advice, it would be to read. All genres, any genre. Reading helps you imitate which is the first step to find your style.
C.S. Servigna I'm working on a series of five short stories in the fantasy/YA genre. I'm thinking that this series can be expanded later, but for now I'm planning on releasing the first five before end of 2014.
C.S. Servigna I was listening to music one day and the song Home by the Sea by Genesis came up. While listening to the song, the story showed up in my mind. This was back in 2009. At that moment I was taking a fiction writing class and I mentioned the story to the teacher, who encouraged me to pursue it.
If you compare the song lyrics to the story, they are not related at all, but something in the song triggered the main plot.
