My most recent novel, The Crying of Ross 128, arose from my novel writing course I ran in the fall of 2017. It began as one of a dozen story ideas I was kicking around. This idea came from an incident in May, 2017, when strange signals from the Ross 128 dwarf star system were detected at the large antenna array in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. At first, the astronomers weren't sure what these signals were (they were later shown to be of Earth origin). From that story, I wondered what would happen if, in the near future, an amateur astronomer picked up signals from space that were clearly alien? What kind of impact would that have on us all? And that's how Ross 128 began.

I don't think I've ever been inspired to write. Honestly, I treat writing like the work it is. My job. Now don't get me wrong, I love my work so it doesn't feel like "work", if you know what I mean. But to be effective and productive, I need to show up every day at my writing table, and write.

I'm currently working on the sequel to The Crying of Ross 128. I'm really excited about it too!

Just keep writing. Don't stop. Don't listen to the lizard brain when it tells you your writing is awful. Just write some more.

I love everything about the writing process, from story idea generation to plotting to character development, writing, revising, editing, publishing and promoting. The best thing about being a writer is everything.

I don't experience writer's block. If I ever get stuck or unproductive, it's because I'm feeling fear or my plotting is weak. Either way, I get back on track by writing. Something. Anything.
