There are loads of things I love about being a writer, but one of the best things is that that world you create is yours. You can visit it as often as you like and hang out with all the creatures there. It's your space, your safe haven.

The best advice is already out there, so I'll just reiterate it - WRITE! Don't worry about it being any good, it should be crap, especially at first. Write fearlessly and keep writing. The only way to get better is to do.

Usually writing for me has been two parts hard work and one part mindless distraction. The discipline is needed at the start to begin the thing, but then it's important to separate yourself and allow your mind to wander on the idea, all casual like. I constantly start things and then find myself physically leaving the room in order to develop that idea further. If you're blocked, you might need more wandering.
