Gene Poschman I am writing, and hopefully, I will be rereading, editing and releasing the fifth book in the Jonas Watcher series.

Somewhere in there, I will be reading Clouds of Witness by Dorthy Sayers.
Gene Poschman To New Orleans in The Case of the Bourbon Street Hustler. It was the 1930s, prohibition was ending, and the Crescent City as it was known back then was alive with jazz, blues, and adventure. America was between wars, one becoming a distant memory and the other not here yet. I would ride the streetcars, walk Bourbon Street, and take in the atmosphere of a city in turmoil, looking for ways to make things right.

I would work on a riverboat loading and unloading cargo and sweating to an honest day's work and spend my nights listening to the music of that great city.
Gene Poschman As I lay on the bed, I took her into my arms and kissed away the tear in her eye. I held her close aching for her to wake up and then she was gone from me forever.
Gene Poschman Why was the Watermelon patch so far from the farmer's house?
Gene Poschman There were two sources for my idea. The first source came from reading "The Continental Op" by Dashiell Hammett. In one of the stories I asked myself, "What if?" with regards to a plot point in one of the stories in the book. The second source came from an episode of "Have Gun Will Travel".
Gene Poschman I read, it is that simple. Sometimes I will watch a really good or bad movie and I will be moved to write.
Gene Poschman My current project is the third book in the Jonas Watcher series called "The Case of the Jade Dragon".

After Jonas saves an oriental couple he is hired to bring a bride from St Louis to San Francisco for an arranged marriage to unite two long-feuding families from China. There are people who are willing to see him dead than rather complete his mission.

The first unedited chapter will be on my Goodreads blog in a bit.
Gene Poschman Write, learn grammar, learn about storytelling, write, take classes in writing, go to writer conferences, shut up and write.
Gene Poschman I like to make up stories. In a past life, I must have been a minstrel. My real joy is finishing a book and giving it to my wife to read. She is a fan, a very outspoken fan. She is my best critic, because if it sucks, she tell me it sucks.
Gene Poschman I read, or I watch movies. Sometimes I will bring up my latest work in progress and listen to music. One thing that helps me is I write an outline about the novel I am working on before I write the novel. I have a working title, I list characters and who they are, I will give the brief background biographies. That way when I actually start writing the novel, I have a path to follow. By the way, I have been known to deviate from that path.
