I post all of the appropriate ones, even if they are adult. I just point out that they are adult books. I read some YA books that cannot be in the library and kids know that they can read them outside of school

I plan on trying it this year with those kids that have access on devices. I want to offer it as an option to them for keeping track of which books they have read and see if they like it.

I successfully used Goodreads in my classroom last year with both 7th and 8th graders. Students set their own reading goals that they kept track of on an index card (old-school library style), and at the end of each quarter, we would go on Goodreads and they would add and rate the books they read. They were required to write one book review (after we had a lesson on what makes a good book review and reading several examples!). Some of my students absolutely loved it and still use it today. I also had some parents come in at conferences saying that they loved that I started using this. They thought it was teaching their students to use social media appropriately and gave them a realistic use for book reviews. It warmed my heart.

One thing that is great is making a private group (you can post your rules and procedures) for recommending/discussing books. I've done this with my students, allowing parents to join, too, if they'd like. Form a group, select private, then have students/parents follow you so that you can invite them to the group. I have some students on GR that I still recommend books to, and they can continue to see the books I'm reading.
