Ally Aldridge This whole series has been brewing in my head for years but the inspiration is a mix of several sources from songs, to movies, and real-life experiences. Ocean Heart started out as A Little Mermaid inspired tale but was mixed with Rachel Vincent's werecat series with shifters in the real world. I played computer games like City of Heroes and loved the superpowers in the game. The series is set in my hometown, Felixstowe, and inspired by growing up in this beautiful seaside town. This is only a small sample of the many sources that sparked my imagination for the Soul Heart Series.
Ally Aldridge Currently I’m working on the release of Ocean Heart, a YA Contemporary Fantasy. It’s the first book in my Soul Heart series. I’m also working on drafting book 2 in the series.

I’m constantly busy on my projects. My writer brain never switches off. To keep up with my most current WIPs, check out my website, newsletter and social media.
Ally Aldridge I don’t believe “aspiring writers” is a thing. You either do write or you don’t. If you want to be a writer, go write. Don’t worry if it’s rubbish, that’s what editing is for. Don’t beat yourself up if you need a break. A novel is a long haul goal, not a quick sprint.
Ally Aldridge I have a blog post and info graphic with lots of methods to combat this. You can’t force writing. Sometimes it’s because you need a break and other times it’s because you need to do some research. Don’t place restrictions on yourself, if you’re excited to write the fight scene at the end of the book, you can write it first and then fill in the gaps leading up to the scene. Having an outline can also help you know what you need to cover but don’t be afraid to change the plan.
Ally Aldridge So many things inspire my work. The main ones would be:
* My experiences - just living my life. I have been asked if OCEAN HEART is about me as the MC has redhead, lives in my hometown and is crushing on her BFF. But, I’m not a mermaid with weather manipulation powers.
* Art - a picture, a song, a film, a book. The underwater kiss scene was inspires by a photo. Mariah’s powers was inspired by a song. The initial idea was started as a modern The Little Mermaid. And, the shifters was inspired by Rachel Vincent’s series on werecats.
* Conspiracy theories/News - I’d love to write a dystopian one day. This stories are often shocking and either true or theorists have done a good job to make them believable. I think that’s at the heart of fiction.
