Ericka Andersen As a busy mom, I don't have time for writers block. The best way to push back is to have a system. When I'm writing an op/ed, I write down the full format of an op/ed and start to fill int he pieces one by one. Small goals lead to a lot more work being done than you'd ever realize. Just START WRITING.
Ericka Andersen It's like being a word artist. Only you can create it! There's so much potential and possibility in the words you put on paper. It's a magical process to think and dream and pair that with skill and training, purpose and passion. Consider yourself an artist!
Ericka Andersen Grab yourself some great writing books, like the Writers Art and On Writing and Bird by Bird. Read them daily and write something daily. Study the art of the kind of writing you want to do. Read writers who do it well and practice, practice, practice. Writing prompts are so incredible for your creativity and skill.

Writing-wise, I'm writing bi-weekly columns for WORLD Magazine and freelance reporting for Christianity Today, as well as scoping out other potential places to freelance.
Ericka Andersen Usually when I read interesting data that tells me something new, or when I run into a particular bit of wisdom while reading the Bible. I'll get the itch to write and run with it. Certain songs can also do the trick.
Ericka Andersen After a year of poking around in the dark and reading a lot of books about addiction, faith and the church, God told me I was going to write a book for women interested in getting back to church. Once I sat down to really map out all the things that were swirling in my mind, there was no doubt who I would write it for.
