Inspiration is all around. When I see something or think about something I'm interested in, I do a mini brainstorm with it. Usually it inspires something. If not a full story then a scene for later use.

When I was eleven, my mom and dad gave me my first electric guitar. The first time I tried to play in front of people, my hands trembled so much I didn’t know if I could make it through the song. I also loved those old scary movies that would play on television late at night. Somewhere in my mind, I guess I wished that I had had some kind of magic to help me play better.

There are rumors that there may be a sequel to Blues Bones. I also have another book in the works about a girl who makes a mess of things when band class gets canceled because of school budget cuts.

Keep writing, and finish what you write. Even if you only have time to write twenty-five words a day, do it. You may have to sacrifice something like sleep, but it will be worth it to finish your novel. Read everything you can find, and re-read your craft books.

You don’t have to get it right the first time. I love the process of revising and editing. There are few things in life that you get a second chance at. Writing is one of them.

I start writing. A lot of it may be junk, but that’s why there is a delete key. It’s like trying to break through a brick wall with a sledge hammer. I Keep pounding the keys and eventually I get back on track and I get through.
