Scott Chapman Long enough to reach the keyboard, but far enough to allow a bit of self editing!

Some people write as they create, some plan intensively. For me I need to have every chapter clearly set out with a start, end and clear point of development for either plot or character.

I try not to edit until the end of the first draft. It gives me a little distance.
Scott Chapman I am on my fourth book now and am planning a new series which I will start next year.

Building on existing characters is a great experience and quite a surprise as I am getting to know fictitious people!
Scott Chapman The best feeling I get is when I take a new chapter and add it to a working manuscript. It is like seeing something grow.

Reader feedback is a tremendous experience. When I first started getting Amazon reviews I was amazed and I still read every one, good or bad.

Now that writers have open access through tools like KDP, we don't need to jump through the hoops of agents and publishers, so it is all down to us!
Scott Chapman The only way through is to write. I give myself a target of about three hundred words between coffee breaks so before I hit the keyboard I spend a lot of time sipping espresso and staring into the distance planning the next step.
Scott Chapman All my books come from the idea that history leaves its imprint on the world around us and that we can trip over remnants from the past. My last book is focused around how a single artefact, a key bearing the symbol of the Knights Templar impacts several people during different periods of history.
