I should say I get inspired by books but in truth films have always fired me up. And DVD commentary tracks are a wonderful source for learning about the creative process of story telling. The Godfather trilogy commentaries are very useful with Francis Ford Coppola. And any commentaries by William Goldman, Peter Bogdanovich and Martin Scorsese are all great.

I'm still aspiring to be a writer so I don't have that much advice. There are no magic formulas (and I have looked everywhere). The only thing you can do is keep writing and writing and writing. Then as you improve you can see what works and doesn't work.
