Mark Wooden Speaking on "Two Sisters," when I was in grade school, I had this one-of-a-kind picture of me as a kid. (This was before scanning and such.) Some hooligans drew a mustache and beard on it, destroying it. I used that scenario, that emotion of loss for the past, to create a painting my protagonist and resident vampire assassin Adriana remembered of her and her lost sister. It resurfaces; she's determined to fight her way through a cult of vampire assassins to get it.
Mark Wooden Curiously, by seeing examples of bad creativity; the challenge of saying "I can do better!" and thenproving that so. Having something to say on a particular issue of the socio-political spectrum also works for me.
Mark Wooden Watching a good movie or TV show, driving while listening to a mood-enhancing soundtrack, or reading a good book, article or comic. Anything to get the creative juices of inspiration flowing. Sometimes, even just researching an element of your story will generate the spark.
Mark Wooden Creating a story that resonates with an audience. And I'd be lying if I also didn't mention the hours, working in you pajamas and the tax write offs. ;)
Mark Wooden The sequel to "By Virtue Fall" is in my editor's hands a release this October. Look for the cover reveal in September! I'm also getting ahead by working up the third "Shadowdance" saga release, "Two Sisters." It's a prequel to the first two books in that it takes places in Paris in 2001. It chronicles a confrontation between "By Virtue Fall" protagonist and vampire assassin Adriana against the cult of vampire assassins who trained and then betrayed her.
