Mollie Hunt I'll give it to you in one word: "2020."
Mollie Hunt I don't have a reading list; I have a reading pile. And a reading shelf. And another reading shelf. When I finish a book, I choose another by whim. Among the pile are: "Turtles all the Way", poetry by Rosemary Lombard; "The Ninth Life", by Clea Simon; "Broken Boys", by Jill Kelly; McDeath", by "Cindy Brown; "Murder in the Mystery Suite", by Ellery Adams; "Rock With Wings", by Anne Hillerman, and all the Dan Rhodes mysteries by Bill Crider.
Mollie Hunt Hello, Marjorie. Please tell me a little about your novel. What is the genre? Does it have cats in it? I'm not a fast reader, but if it's anything like your other work and you're not in a terrible hurry, I'd be happy to read and review.
Mollie Hunt That's a good question, Goodreads. I do include incidents from my own life in my Crazy Cat Lady mystery series, although I'm happy to say I've never run across a dead body, been accused of murder, or been chased by a serial killer. My real-life mysteries are a bit more mundane, such as what's in that container at the back of the fridge or where did Little hide her cat toy.
Mollie Hunt What a great question, and just in time for Valentines day. My all time favorite fictional couple is Joe Grey and Dulcie from Shirley Rousseau Murphy's Joe Grey cat mystery series, and yes - you guessed it - they are cats. Not only have Joe and Dulcie stuck together through 20 books over 21 years, but their love has grown ever stronger (see "Cat Shout For Joy"). Those two could teach most human couples a thing or two about love and devotion.
Mollie Hunt Bill Shatner answered that one at a Star Trek Convention. He said if you have writer's block, it's because you've gone wrong somewhere in your story. Go back and find that place, then take it in another direction.
Mollie Hunt Power. I can right wrongs, save worlds, go to space, be young or old, male or female or feline, as I choose, with a keystroke.
Mollie Hunt Give your writing the respect it's due. It's easy to discount your writing time, especially before you begin making money, but it's important to keep it in the forefront of your pursuits. Meet other writers. And if you get sick of waiting to be discovered, publish online, but only after you've had your work professionally edited. Editors are gold.
Mollie Hunt I'm working on my 4th and 5th Crazy Cat Lady mysteries, "Cat Call" and "Cat Cafe". In "Cat Call" Lynley takes a job as a cat handler for a television production, but when she finds the show is "hexed", she has to handle a lot more than cats. In "Cat Cafe", the owner of Le Cafe Meow is found dead and all the black cats have gone missing.
Mollie Hunt I would rather write than anything. If you don't feel that way about writing, you should probably try another creative outlet.
Mollie Hunt I have a lot in common with my character, Lynley Cannon. We both volunteer at a cat shelter, visit hospice patients with a therapy cat, enjoy hip hop and Star Trek. But while Lynley's out having wild adventures, I'm usually at my computer with a cat on my lap.
