We have the same problem with spiritual practice, sometimes you just can't do it, so it is best to give up and come back refreshed and ready. You can't force it but you do need to be disciplined enough to get back to it.

Write, get the material down, you can always edit it afterwards but you have to have something to work with first. You will be surprised at how much you have actually generated if you do and this encourages you.

I write all of the time in both my professional and home life. My inspiration for these books comes from my long term interaction with bardic and ovate tutees on the OBOD course, where common themes kept arising over the years that I have done this.
