Pankaj Sekhsaria The Last Wave - my debut novel, was a story I felt had to be told. It also came from about 15 years of my experience of working in the A&N Islands. Reading The Hungry Tide by Amitav Ghosh also provided the inspiration and an idea and the other source was the tsunami of 2004 that caused huge devastation in the islands.

Islands in Flux (to be published in March 2017) is a collection of my already published journalism and academics and I thought it would be useful and important to put together these writings and stories to keep issues of these faraway islands in the spotlight
Pankaj Sekhsaria I think I like the idea of writing itself. I enjoy it a lot - the play with words and of communicating thoughts, ideas and provocations. In some ways writing itself is my inspiration to write!
Pankaj Sekhsaria Just finalising 'Islands in Flux - Writings on the environment and indigenous peoples of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands' , which is a collection of my journalism and academic stuff on the islands from 1998 to 2015. Being published by HarperCollins and should be out sometime March, later this year.
Pankaj Sekhsaria Hard work. Write, write, write. Play with the words and the ideas...and keep playing...it'll surely fall into place
Pankaj Sekhsaria The chance to play with words - how they form into ideas and how ideas take the form of words. The word is the tool to craft your ideas and your writing and I think, I like that process of 'crafting' very much!
Pankaj Sekhsaria I've tried to work out a pattern and a discipline in writing, where I end up with pen and paper (actually, the computer!) early in the mornings. The idea for me is to work for a few hours with the idea of the writing or the story and that helps me get by.
