I don't think I have a favorite couple. But my favorite family has to be the Durrell's in My Family and Other Animals, by Gerald Durrell. While the father has died, the eccentric mother and her eccentric children are wonderful. Not fiction, was real life, but brought to life in a beautiful and extremely funny story.

Seeing a shell shaped like a unicorn's horn, while walking on a beach one day, triggered the idea for The Legend of Wild Horse Beach. That was the easy part!

Listening, watching, reading. My first novel was the hardest in terms of inspiration. The Legend of Wild Horse Beach came from an idea when I saw a shell, shaped like a unicorn's horn, while I was walking on a beach. The second novel is flowing on from that.
The YA novel was inspired through a comment by someone in a group I belong to. It immediately triggered an idea for a novel.

I don't expect to make money from writing. I do it because I enjoy it. Writing fiction fills my time (it also can take it away!) and is something quite different from my other pursuits in academia or community development. Also, it helps to keep my brain active - important when you are close to 70.

Well, I tend to procrastinate anyway, so writers' block can be dangerous as it gives me an excuse not to get down to writing. I find the best way is to start something new, have a break from writing the piece that is 'blocked', and get back to it when I feel more refreshed.
