Karen Dodd Not going out to work for someone (except my readers) and being creatively free. I love that the writing community, as a whole, is very generous in sharing and helping other authors. I believe there’s never been a better time to be a writer!
Karen Dodd My inspiration comes more from my journals and little notebooks I have everywhere: in the car, by my bed, when I travel...you get the idea! Or from something I’ve observed or eavesdropped through my day.

The truth is I’m NOT always inspired but I write anyway. I sit down at my desk every weekday for six to eight hours a day because that’s my “job.” I read what I’ve written the day before, do a little bit of polishing (or sometimes chuck it altogether!) and then move on to creating new work.

When I’m creatively brain dead, I give myself permission to research or do a little marketing on my previous books.

Karen Dodd First of all, if you write you’re a writer— a “pre-published” author, so think of yourself in those terms rather than an “aspriring writer.” Don’t get too caught up in having the right credentials but do invest in yourself: learn from others and hone your craft.
Karen Dodd I feel that writer’s block is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, so I tend to discount it. I can always write something; it might not be good but a writer can’t edit and polish if she doesn’t write!
Karen Dodd This is actually regarding the book I’m currently working on. In 2018, I had the good fortune to be in Malta for my husband’s financial conference. As a group of us were waiting outside the hotel to be shuttled to the airport, I commented how beautiful Malta was and how I’d like to come back again. One of the financial advisors replied, “Yes, and who knew it’s the new money-laundering capital of the world?”

As soon as I got home I started researching and sure enough, not only is the island a center of corruption and money-laundering, but journalist Daphne Galizia had been assassinated in a car bomb just four months before our visit.

Since then, I’ve been researching relentlessly and tying much of what I’ve learned into book3 in the series.

Karen Dodd I’m currently working on book3 in the Stone Suspense series which is due out in the spring of 2019.
