I give myself a break. I don't say to myself, "Ugh, I only wrote a paragraph today!" Instead I say, "That one paragraph took me two days, but I slaved over it, and it works. The rest will come when it's ready to." Bottom line, immerse yourself in life, draw new inspiration, change the tune on your i-pod, go for a walk in the woods, take a breath, re-hydrate. It will come.

The best thing about being a writer and an artist is...connection. I love getting close to people, and having them get close to me...even if we are miles apart and strangers. Writing does that.

Well, I, I am an aspiring writer. I don't think any of us ever stop aspiring. If we did, the show would be over. My advice to someone just starting out, or who may be where I was in 2008...don't second guess yourself, and, don't ever, ever stop writing, no matter what. A dusty set of fingers and keyboard is the kiss of death. Same for artists. That old saying, "If you don't use it, you lose it." So very true.

I am simultaneously working on two books right now: the fourth in my urban fantasy series, House of New Gods, as well as a new project that will remain a secret until I get closer to publication. ;-) I draw from my own life, even when writing fantasy.
