Cathy Hird This is easy: Fionavar, the world Guy Gavriel Kay created. What I would do there is harder. I would want to visit Daniloth, the home of the lios alfar (elves), but also I would go to the mountains and the home of the dwarves, and ask to visit the lake where a crystal dragon lives.
Cathy Hird I am currently working on the third book in my contemporary fantasy series that draws on Celtic mythology. In this book, the main characters are trying to locate the grail to return it to the goddess who first put it in human hands. But the Taranis, the god of Thunder, is not willing to let it leave his lands.
Cathy Hird Write every day. Don't wait for the story to be whole in your head, or the idea to be perfect. Write what you are thinking, imagining. Write character sketches. Write a setting. Something. From time to time, reread these jottings and see which are worth working on more. Writing is a craft that takes practice so even the scribbles that no one else every sees are building blocks for your poems, stories, masterpiece novels, memoire....
Cathy Hird When I am too tired or drained to write something new, I work on edits. Often when I am working on a section, the light bulb in my head goes "Pop" and I have an idea how to scale the wall.
Cathy Hird A friend got obsessed by this hill in our area, thought it was a viking burial mound. He was disappointed when scans showed it was just dirt. I imagined that it was the site of something magical....and now I have an alchemist, an enslaved daughter, shadow creatures from the deep....and more!
