Read. Read everything that interests you - sci-fi, fantasy, crime novels, spy thrillers, autobiographies, etc. Then start writing. That's the best possible education you could get as a writer.

I've always been obsessed with zombies and shows like The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Zombieland etc. So I started looking around my neighbourhood and asking myself: what would a zombie apocalypse look like in Singapore? And that's how I started writing Land of the Meat Munchers.
